Christmas lighting contest is plugged in
Since the 1960's, outdoor residential lighting displays have become an integral part of American culture.
One family and one business will be glad they put up lights this year, when they win valuable prizes in the Minden Press-Herald's (MPH) Christmas Lighting Contest which kicked off last Friday.
"We are happy to partner with the City of Minden and local businesses to once again sponsor this year's Christmas Lighting Contest," Press-Herald Publisher Josh Beavers said. "We believe this is a great way for our community to shine during this joyous holiday season."
Deadline for entries is 4 p.m. on Friday, December 14. Judging will occur during the week of December 17. To participate, fill out and send in the form on page 12.
All winners, residential and business, will be featured in a MPH front-page article. A basket of prizes from local businesses, totaling more than $500 in value, will go to the residential winner. The business winner will receive a complementary advertising package with MPH.
"This year's prize basket is especially nice," Beavers said. "We appreciate the generosity of our business partners in providing these prizes. Of course the business winner's prize, a complimentary advertising package with our paper, is beyond value."
The prize basket includes:
A free front-end alignment from A.J. Price, a $50 value;
One-month free tanning and lotion from South Beach Tanning & Tuxedos, a $75 value;
A gift bundle from MBL Bank;
A free family portrait session with Main Street Photography, a $250 value;
$50 worth of fireworks from Bistineau Blasters;
A $50 gift certificate from ACE Hardware; and,
A three-month subscription to the Minden Press-Herald.
"Join us in this seasonal celebration and get your entry forms in for a chance at these great prizes," Beavers said. "Minden is a beautiful community year round, but Minden alit at Christmas time is especially beautiful."
