North Webster Knights defeats Kinder

Knights win first playoff game, now will host John Curtis

KINDER—The North Webster Knights won thier first-ever football playoff game as they defeated the Kinder Yellow Jackets, 14-13, Friday night.

"This was big," North Webster head coach John Ware said. "These kids had never even made the playoffs, much less won a game. We've come all the way back from two wins last year to this."

The Knights' defense saved the game, as the Yellow Jackets scored a touchdown to cut the North Webster lead to just 14-13 with 39 seconds left. After an off-side call on North Webster on the extra point, Kinder elected to go for two and the win.

The Knights' defense held Kinder quarterback Austin Pickle out of the end zone and then after Kinder recovered the on-side kick, they responded again to stop the Yellow Jackets and preserve the 14-13 win.

North Webster jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half on a 50-yard touchdown run by Devin White. Early in the fourth quarter Ryan Hawthorn broke off a long run to put the Knights' up 14-0.

Hawthorne led the Knights with 66 yards rushing and White added 49. Quarterback J.O. Smith ran for 37 yards and passed for 33, completing passes to Matt Taylor and Reggie Lewis.

Things will only get harder for the Knights this week, as they will now host the top seeded John Curtis Patriots in a second-round match-up.
