Funeral services for Lena M. Battle Johnson, 83, of Minden, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at Valley Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Minden. Pastor Ray D. Jiles will officiate. Burial will follow in Valley Spring Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 9 at Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Lena M. Battle was born Jan. 1, 1928 to Mr. Sam and Mrs. Pothine Battle in Minden and died Nov. 20, 2011 in Minden. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Valley Spring Baptist Church. She attended school in the Webster Parish public school system.
She united in holy matrimony to Mr. Grover D. Johnson and seven children were born to this union. Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated member of Valley Spring Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful usher for a number of years until her health began to fail.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, aunts, uncles and one brother, Mr. Henry "H.L.' Battle.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Vera (William) Craven of Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Diane (Frederick) Coleman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five sons, Willie Johnson of Denver, Colorado, Wilbert Johnson, Gregory Johnson, Rickey Johnson all of Dallas, Texas and Donnie Johnson of Minden; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Clay of Houston, Texas; 18 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Stovall, Arthur Gill, John Walker, Bobby Walker, Lee Otis Stovall and James T. Gill.
Valley Spring Missionary Baptist Church ushers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
