Sticky-finger pair stuck for theft

Shane_Bird Kimberly_RushingA couple of shoplifters picked up more than they bargained for when Minden Police arrested them on multiple drug and theft charges.

Kimberly Rushing, 27, of the 1000 Tillman Drive, has been charged with theft of goods, criminal trespassing and possession of CDS Sch. II (Methadone) and Sch. IV (Klonopin).

Shane Bird, 41, of the 1400 block of Middle Road, was charged with theft of goods.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said the pair stole makeup, articles of clothing, jewelry and DVDs from a local discount store.

"Officers first class Chris McClaran, Joel Kendrick and Danny Turner responded to the call in reference to shoplifers and a disturbance at the store," Cropper said. "When they arrived, the couple was walking across the store's parking lot toward gas pumps."

The chief said the officers arrested Rushing and Bird immediately on shoplifting charges.

"A search of Rushing revealed the Methadone and Klonopin," Cropper said. "So, those charges were added to the initial charge of shoplifting."

Rushing was reportedly on probation, and Cropper said the Office of Probation and Parole has placed a hold on her.

She is currently held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
