I recently went to a southern gospel event and the singer was speaking about the blessings of our freedom in America and how slowly some liberties are being taken. It had me thinking about how much is our fault. It reminded me of the garden of Eden and how we have followed that pattern.
God blessed Adam and Eve beyond all measure with everything they needed and then some. God did that to many Americans. He did, however, give them a boundary. He told them not to eat from the forbidden tree. God's word gives us boundaries. However, the snake, tempted Eve and said "Did God really say that?" Eve didn't just quote God's word spoken to them directly, she questioned the bounary. She gave the snake his way. She disobeyed God and didn't reverence Him. Eve led Adam, her leader, astray. So, the blessings left.
God gave us a clear boundary. God blessed us for following it. However, we have let the devil lead us astray from it and say things like "God didn't really say that" and "this must be an exception" or "I think it is this way" and it has gotten us in trouble. The respect for God and His name are going down. The leaders have gone astray. So, our blessings left. If we abuse our freedom, it will be taken. If we are not humble, God will let us go to waste. However, he did give us a promise. 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." We need to humble ourselves and seek the face of God in His name, Jesus. We need to pray for our people to turn back to God. We need to pray for our leadership. Whining about our leaders is not nearly as effective as praying for them. If we keep taking advantage of our freedom, then it will leave and the fighting of our troops will be in vain.
