Homer Road plat on council agenda

comlogoFinal plat approval for resubdivision of property on Homer Road is up for vote today at a meeting of the Minden City Council.

Alexandria-based Glamr Management, LLC, known for Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits franchise, is developing the property, located on the front of Minden Town East Shopping Center, which houses Stage and Tractor Supply.

Work has been ongoing at the site since the February 7 council meeting where preliminary approval was given.

Minden Mayor Bill Robertson said he does not have the authority to release the name of the business that will be located 1060 Homer Road.

Attempts to reach officials with Glamr Management, which is a subsidiary of Lafayette-based Glamr Ventures, Inc., were unsuccessful.

Also on the council agenda is an amendment ordinance stating that it will be considered illegal to park an unregistered and/or uninsured vehicle on residential property within view from the public way for more than six days.

"There are several places in town that have six or seven old cars in their yards," Robertson said. "If the vehicle is visible to the public, we can make them move it."

According to the amendment, any vehicle remaining on the property six days and then 10 days after written notice by return receipt certified mail will be considered property of the city and disposed at the owner's expense.

"We are trying to put a little more teeth into the old ordinance," Robertson said.

Parking is also addressed in the ordinance amendment.

There will be two hours of free parking in designated parking areas in the downtown shopping district.

In any residential district, it will be against the law to "park or leave any passenger motor vehicle, commercial vehicle, vehical with dual wheels, recreational vehicle or trailer of any kind for a period of time in excess of six hours."

"We've had a number of complaints about trailers – like carry lawn equipment – left in the street for long periods of time," Robertson said. "Those things are dangerous – especially at night with no lights."

Other agenda items are:
Declaration of surplus property on Buck Street, Pershing and Fulton streets, Walnut Street and W.R. Reeder and Verdis streets.

The council meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Minden City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
