The Glenbrook Apaches, led by a combined 67 points from Jalen Patterson and Cade Spurlock, downed the Claiborne Academy Rebels, 81-71, Tuesday night.
"I thought the kids played real well," Apache coach Todd Spurlock said. "This win gives us a solid hold on second place in a very tough district."
Spurlock said the win came at a tough time for the Apaches.
"We went through some adversity recently, and I wasn't sure how the team would handle it," he said. "Sometimes these things destroy a team, and sometimes it makes you stronger. So far, it's been the latter."
Spurlock said his bench played a big part in last night's win.
"We've had some kids that have been in the shadows all year step up and play well," he said. "Kids don't always know what they can do until they're forced to do it. Kids like Sam Marvin, who has played good defense all year, stepped up with some quality points last night. Regan Edwards played tremendous on defense. Caleb Wilson made his first start and rebounded well and Caden Copeland came off the bench and played very well."
Jalen Patterson led the Apaches with 35 points and Cade Spurlock scored 32.
"It was just a fun game to be a part of," Spurlock said. "We have a couple of non-district games this week before we get back to district play next Tuesday."
