Knights have playoffs in sight as they top Rebels

SPRINGHILL—The North Webster Knights took another step towards a LHSAA Class 2A playoff spot with a 51-28 win over North Caddo on Friday.

The Knights have now won five of their last six to improve to 5-3 on the year.

"It was a pretty big win," North Webster head coach John Ware said. "We've been getting better every week, and I feel if we won this game it would put us in the playoffs And we're pretty sure that's right."

North Webster jumped out to a 30-7 lead at the half before letting North Caddo pull back within a couple of touchdowns in the second half.

"We laxed up a little bit in the second half," Ware said. "We let them recover a couple of onside kicks, but the game was never in doubt."

Running back Devin White had an outstanding game as he racked up 146 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns, including a 97-yard TD run. He also returned an interception 60 yards for another touchdown. Quarterback J.O. Smith turned in another solid game as he rushed for 98 yards on just seven carries.

Smith also completed three passes for 41 yards.

Reggie Lewis had two catches for eight yards and White had one for 33.

In was a different experience for Ware, as he had coached at North Caddo for three seasons before taking over at North Webster.

"It was strange out there. I was kind of ready to get it over," Ware said. "It was a lot of mixed feelings. When you've coached about 90% of the kids out on the field, it's kind of weird."

The Knights will have to quickly forget about this win and focus on Friday night's opponent-the Evangel Eagles.
