Farmers Market opens Saturday

Farmers and backyard gardeners will again be selling their produce at the market on the picturesque grounds of the Farm, beginning this Saturday.

Gate opens at 7 a.m. and the market will run from 7:30 a.m. and noon or until they sell out.

"We're proud to have some returning favorites, " said Pam Brunson. "Melvin will be back with his homemade soaps and herbal creams. Mary will be back with her homemade confectionaries, and we have several new farmers who will be bringing their crops to market for sale."

Customers can expect to find an array of locally-grown fresh vegetables, homemade soaps, candy, jams, jellies, pickles, fresh eggs, baked goods and anything else that is homemade, handmade or homespun.

Marjorie Bailey of Heflin and Guy Twyman of Minden will be joined by other young entrepreneurs at the Farmers Market, as Cultural Crossroads promotes vegetables and goods offered for sale by children.

Anyone interested in selling at the market can do so by simply joining the sponsoring organization. An annual membership of $30 makes anyone eligible to sell at the market.

"While fresh vegetables will be our main goal, the Farm has found some success in offering space for community yard sales," Brunson said.

Space at the market will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. A covered pavilion holds many vendors while the grounds can also accommodate trucks and trailers. Local produce is priority with this year's market.

The Farm is located on the corner of Talton and East Union in Minden.
