With this year's Christmas season only days away the annual Christmas toy program "Civitan Santa" is in full swing.
Each year the local Civitan Club with the help of the Young Woman's Service Club collects and distributes toys to needy children in the Minden - South Webster Parish area.
The "Civitan Santa" tries to deliver at least one new toy for each of the children who have nothing.
According to Ed LaBruyere, toy chairman, last year the program provided toys for almost 700 children in over 200 families in the Minden-South Webster Parish area.
"We were able to run this program due to the generosity of local businesses and individuals who donated money plus hundreds of dollars worth of new toys for the children," LaBruyere said.
Members of the Minden City Police Department and the Webster Parish Sheriff's Department will deliver the toys just before Christmas.
Donated toys (new) may be delivered to the Minden police or fire stations and cash donations may be sent to the Minden Civitan Club, P.O. Box 95, Minden, LA 71058. Several businesses will also have drop boxes for toys.
Application forms may be picked up at the Minden City Police Department, the Minden fire stations, the Webster Community Action offices or at the local UCAP office. Applications will be considered for children through age thirteen.
In order to have all of the toys delivered by Christmas all applications for assistance must be in the hands of the sponsors by December 13.
