Lions Club hosts first forum

Election season will kick into high gear beginning Thursday with the first of several political forums scheduled for the four candidates vying to become the next State Representative for District 10.

Thursday's forum will be sponsored by the Minden Lions Club. The event will be held at noon in the American Legion Hall on Pine Street.

"Each candidate will have five minutes to present themselves and their platform to the Lions," event organizer and long-time Lions Club member Lee Estabrook said. "When all have spoken, the floor will be opened for questions. Questions can be directed to any or all the candidates for an answer."

Three Republicans and one Democrat filed for State Representative, District 10, the position term-limited by Democrat Jean Doerge.

Republicans are Ronnie Broughton, Jerri Ray de Pingre' and Gerald Holland. The Democrat is Gene Reynolds.

This event is the first of several planned forums. On September 22, the Springhill-North Webster Chamber of Commerce is planning a forum for all positions to be decided in the upcoming election.

The following week, the Press-Herald and KASO Radio are planning a forum for the state representative office.

Check back for more details on both events.

The election is scheduled for October 22. Early voting takes place October 8 through 15, and September 21 is the deadline to register to vote or change voter registration. Visit www.geauxvote.com for more.
