Doyline falls to Castor in first district game

CASTOR — The Doyline Panthers traveled to Castor on Thursday afternoon to take on the Tigers in their first district game of the year. Unfortunately, the Panthers came home with a 6-2 loss.

"We continue to slide in a downward direction," Doyline head coach John Austin said. "I am hoping it just comes in cycles and we will peak in a upward direction during playoffs."
Micheal Augustine (1-1) took the loss pitching the first four innings.

"Michael started and Gage Brunson came on in relief," Austin said. "They both pitched well enough for us to win."

Brunson led the Doyline offense with three singles. James Gaynor added a pair of singles and Augustine had a double. Luke Watson, Kevin Bolen and Peyton Goerner all added base hits.

"Timely hits are key," Austin said. "We scattered nine hits and only scored two runs. In the top of the sixth and we were down 4-1, we loaded the bases with one out. Kevin Bolen hit the ball about as hard as you can hit one and the shortstop made a diving catch and they doubled us up to get out of the inning. If that ball gets through the whole weight of the game changes. Our time is coming."

The Panthers don't play again until next Tuesday when they host a district game against Quitman at 5 p.m.
