Services to honor the life of Major Clyde Joseph Melancon, USAF, Ret., 78, were held at 2 p.m., today (Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013), at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed in Lane Memorial Cemetery, Sibley. There was a brief visitation between 1 and 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Clyde was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Baton Rouge to the late Achille J. Melancon, Jr. and Mary Clyde (Smith) Melancon, and passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.
Clyde graduated from Hahnville High School in 1952. He graduated from L.S.U. in 1957 and then joined the U.S. Air Force to become an accountant. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War and retired as Major. Clyde loved fishing, gardening, and hunting. He was a beloved father, step-father, brother and friend who will be deeply missed.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" (England) Melancon; and daughter, Cheryl Melancon.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Clyde J. Melancon, Jr. and Art Melancon; brothers, Charles Sterling, John Wayne, Robert Gayle and Phillip Lyle Melancon; stepdaughter, Donna Harris and husband, Allen; and stepgranddaughter, Caroline Harris.
