‘The Judge’ to be auctioned

‘The Judge’ to be auctioned

Always looking for other means to help more people, Minden Charity Classic is adding a new layer to an annual event.

According to MCC spokesperson Robbie Wilson, for the first time this year, anyone can participate in a "public auction" to win a special handgun sponsored by Dr. Randy Clemons.

"A golf tournament and auction are the main sources of fund-raising for this foundation," Wilson said. "To celebrate our 10th year of existence and provide a way for additional Minden area citizens to have an opportunity to help Minden area citizens in need, we are selling 500 - $5 raffle tickets for a Taurus 'The Judge' handgun."

"The Judge" is a five shot revolver designed and produced by Taurus International, chambered for .410 bore shot shells and the .45 Colt cartridges. Taurus promotes the gun as a self-defense tool against carjacking and for home protection.

"It got its name 'The Judge' in 2006 when Bob Morrison, Executive Vice President of Taurus, learned that judges in high-crime areas of Miami, Florida were purchasing the revolver for personal defense in their courtrooms," Wilson said. "Taurus International reports that 'The Judge' is their top-selling firearm.

Wilson said the drawing will take place Friday, May 31 during the Minden Charity Classic auction at Pine Hills Country Club. The winner does not have to be present.

"Dr. Clemons will be drawing the winning ticket out of the hopper and announce the winner prior to the dance," Wilson said. "In the event the winner is not present, they will be called and an appointment will be set with Dr. Clemons at Rocking Rooster to obtain 'The Judge,' complete the background check paperwork, and have pictures taken."

Raffle tickets are being sold at several locations in town including Rocking Rooster, Harper Motors, Wilson Starter and Alternator, Wimberly Agency, McInnis Insurance Agency, Al-N-Way Cleaners and The Pink Magnolia Salon.

"They are selling very quickly so we recommend everyone hurry and get one," she said. "Please keep in mind by purchasing a ticket you are providing monies that will help assist Minden area families. You never know when you or your family may be in need of assistance and please remember that Minden Charity Classic Foundation is here for just that need.

Minden Charity Classic is a nonprofit organization, whose goal is to maintain a fund to provide charitable assistance, within the Minden area, primarily for those needs not specifically met by existing charities.

According to the committee, since its inception in 2004, MCC has distributed more than $268,226 to 179 families/individuals.
Needs met have ranged from house fires to catastrophic illnesses to other life-changing events.
