Kuma Lydia David Coleman

Kuma Lydia David Coleman died Dec. 27, 2012, at home, very peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She fought her lengthy illness with sweet patience.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 from 1 until 3 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport.

There was a private burial service in the Old Minden Cemetery in Minden.

Lydia was born May 3, 1930 in Minden to William Bert David and Lavinia Shealy David. She was a graduate of Minden High School and Louisiana College. After several years of teaching in Caddo Parish Schools and working for The Welfare Department, she became a secretary at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport, retiring in 1996 after 21 years.

Lydia and her husband of 55 years, Ben E. Coleman, enjoyed their weekends at their home on Lake Claiborne where they worshiped at Wesley Chapel.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Shreveport where she served on the Altar Guild, and volunteered in the gift shop.

Lydia is survived by her husband, Ben E. Coleman; their daughter, Nancy and her husband, Graham Cowie and their children, Andrew and Allison.

She has two brothers, Bert David, his wife Liz and his sons, Bill and Brad, all of Dallas, Texas and her brother, Richard David, of Homer. Lydia also has a niece, Kay Collins Barnett, of Lake Charles.

A truly beautiful, gracious and loving soul, Lydia's needs have been met in recent times by two gifted ladies, Diana Daniel and Joann Richmon. The family would also like to extend their grateful appreciation to Hospice of Shreveport/Bossier for their care and compassion.

Lydia's grandfather, J.N. Shealy was Superintendent of the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, in Lake Charles. The home is now The Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, at 7200 Desiard Street in Monroe, Louisiana, 71203. The family suggests memorials may be sent there or to the donor's choice.
