FERRIDAY—The Lakeside basketball teams made the long road trip to Ferriday on Friday worth it, as they came home with a pair of district wins.
The Warriors jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead, and never looked back in their 60-40 win.
"We controlled the game from start to end," Warrior head coach Jason Gould said. "we put some full court pressure on them and they didn't handle it very well., and that led to a number of turnovers."
Lakeside led 33-17 at the half, and then out-scored Ferriday 27-23 in the second half.
"We didn't do a great job of scoring, but our defnse was good enough to allow us to get out of there with a big win," Gould said. "We pretty much held a 20-point lead most of the way. We did most of our damage in the first half, and then we just held par in the second half."
T.J. Carpenter was once again the big gun for the Warriors as he led them with 35 points, six rebounds and five assists. Rontrell Kinsey added eight points. Tarus Erving scored five points and RodneyJenkins and Nyles Moore each added four points.
"This was a big win for us," Gould said. "We made the long drive over there and came home with a win, so it was a sucess for us. We're in the middle of our "Road Warrior" stretch of three straight road games. We have Homer on Tuesday, Jonesboro-Hodge on Friday and Sterlington on the following Tuesday. So if we can just grind it out these next three games, hopefully we can get some wins."
The Warriors are now 13-8 and 3-1, tied for second place in district.
The Lady Warriors led early but had to rally in the fourth quarter as they took a 41-37 decision from the Lady Tojans.
The Lady Warriors led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but only scored two points in the second to trail 21-15 at the half. Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter and then Lakeside out-scored Ferriday 13-5 in the fourth to take the win.
