Woman turns herself in for being married to two men at the same time
A Webster Parish woman turned herself into sheriff's deputies Monday for having one more husband than the law allows.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said Tracy L. Waltman, 46, of the 1000 block of Syrup Mill Road, came to his office and confessed to Capt. Dustin Reynolds and Lt. Barry James who arrested her on bigamy charges.
"Ms. Waltman said she married Bobby Watts on Jan. 1, 2008 in Webster Parish and then married John Hicks on July 30, 2010 in Magnolia, Arkansas," Sexton said. "She claimed that Mr. Hicks knew she was still legally married to Mr. Watts when they married."
Waltman reportedly told deputies that Hicks continually threatens to have her arrested, and she was "tired of him holding things over her head to make her do things she doesn't want to."
According to Louisiana Revised Statute 14:76, Waltman could be fined not more than $1,000, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than five years, or both.
She was booked and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
