Officers answering prowler call make drug arrest
Answering a call in reference to a prowler netted Webster Parish Sheriff's deputies a man on drug charges.
Sidney Jerod Sears, 27, of the 700 block of Penal Farm Road was charged with felony possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana).
Sheriff Gary Sexton said Dep. Tony Matteson, assisted by Dep. Gene Hanson, answered the call on Georgia Road for a possible prowler or trespasser.
"When the deputies arrived on the scene, Dep. Matteson made contact with Sears and identified him by his driver's license," Sexton said. "When he patted him down, he felt something in Sears' pocket."
Matteson reportedly asked Sears to empty his right front pants pocket, and the subject allegedly pulled out a plastic baggie with a green, leafy substance inside.
"With Hanson's assistance, Matteson read Sears his Miranda rights, handcuffed him and transferred him to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center," Sexton said. "Because Sears had a prior marijuana charge from 2004, this charge is a felony."
