Funeral services for Mr. John Alvin Gildon, 92, will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, with Rev. Doyle Hales officiating and eulogy by Blake Canterbury and Patrick Canterbury.
Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Bradley, Arkansas under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Gildon was born March 26, 1920 in Bradley, Arkansas to John S. and Dina Ellen Newsom Gildon and passed away Jan. 29, 2012 in Bossier City.
He was a native of Bradley, Arkansas and a resident of Plain Dealing until 1978, then moving to Dublin, Georgia and returning to Sarepta in 2007. Mr. Gildon was a member of Midway Baptist Church and retired from International Paper Company with 27 years of service. He also worked for SP Newsprint for seven years.
He is survived by daughters, Joanna Canterbury of Sarepta, Marjorie O'Neal of Plain Dealing and Diana Powell and husband, Johnny of Dublin, Georgia; sons, Bennie Gildon and wife, Pat of Dublin, Orville Gildon and wife, Fran of Minden, John T. Gildon and wife, Linda of Plain Dealing and James Gildon and wife, DeeDee of Beckville, Texas; sister, Joyce Schoen and husband, Robert of Texarkana, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gildon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ester Lee Weems Gildon; one sister; and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Canterbury, Joey Canterbury, Richard Canterbury, Jason Powell, Jody Powell, Calvin Gildon, Alfred Gildon and John Gildon.
