Crimson Tide tame Tigers, 72-52

The Minden High Crimson Tide moved into a first place tie with Huntington in District 1-4A with a 72-52 win over the Benton Tigers Friday night in Benton.

"It was a good win," Crimson Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "Our district is in a jumble right now with Northwood upsetting Huntington the other night. You could say we're tied with Huntington right now, as we both have just one district loss, and Northwood and Fair Park are right behind us."

The Tide started slowly, but used their defense to push them to an early lead.

"We struggled a little in the first half to get our rhythm," Shaw said. "But our defense was able to keep us in the game. We used our full court press the whole night to dictate the pace. Benton is more of a half-court team, and we want to push the ball, so we used our press to quicken the pace. I think that worked really well for us, it created some easy baskets and wore them down."

The Tide was able hold Benton to just 18 first half points and led 28-18. In the second half, the team's offense began to pick up the pace.

"We really got rolling in the second half," Shaw said. "We shot the basketball very well. C.J. Elkins and Kevin Hamilton sparked us from the outside and we got some easy baskets driving to the hole."

Elkins led the Tide with 28 points and Hamilton added 18. Anfernee Red scored six points and Leandre Forbes and Reggie Seamster both scored five. Tra Thornton and Dominique walker each scored three points and Demmaria Hill scored two.

The Tide will jump back into the fire with two tough district games this week.

"We have an extremely tough week ahead of us," Shaw said. "We have to go to Northwood tomorrow and then we host Huntington on Friday night, which is a huge ball game. I know there will be a lot going on in town this week, but we hope we can get a lot of people out to support us Friday night.

The win moved the Tide to 4-1 in District 1-4A and 21-4 overall.
