A local man is facing drug charges along with a bill for two new tires.
Ronald J. Couvillion, 56, of the 700 block of Horton Street, was arrested for open container, public drunkenness and possession of CDS Sch. IV (Soma).
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said Friday afternoon his officers responded to a call by a local business owner concerning a vehicle that had jumped a curb and blown two tires.
"Ofc. Chris McClaran went to the scene where he made contact with Couvillion, who appeared to have been drinking," said Cropper. "With assistance from Sgt. Spencer Tippen, the officers got Couvillion out of the vehicle and McClaran began conducting a field sobriety test."
Tippen, according to Cropper, observed an open container inside the vehicle in plain view.
"Sgt. Tippen opened the door of the vehicle to retrieve the container and next to it was a bottle that contained Soma and Penicillin," said the chief. "The officers put Couvillion on the Intoxylizer machine, but he was under the limit."
For that reason, Cropper said Couvillion was not charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
"Combined with the alcohol, the pills are likely what made him appear to be intoxicated," Cropper said.
Couvillion was booked at the Minden Police Department and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
