Drugs, kids do not mix

Two Webster Parish men are behind bars after sheriff’s narcotics deputies found them with drugs in the company of a pair of small boys.

CHRISTOPHER_DANIEL_HARRISONGARY_WAYNE_CORNELIUS_JR According to Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton, Gary Wayne Cornelius Jr., 30, of the 100 block of Country Lane in Dixie Inn and Christopher Daniel Harrison, 19, of the 300 block of South Gum in Minden have been arrested and charged with possession of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Susbstance) Sch. I (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of illegal use of CDS in the presence of minors.

Capt. Robert Hayden, Jr. and deputies Bobby Igo, III and Joel Thomas executed a search warrant at the Dixie Inn residence and discovered the two men sitting on the couch with two 16-month-old boys on the floor.

“The deputies reported noticing a strong smell of what appeared to be marijuana and saw a clear plastic baggie containing green vegetation on the kitchen table,” Sexton said. “There also was a freshly-rolled cigar blunt, marijuana seeds and stems laying all across the table with residue where the suspects were separating the marijuana for consumption.”

Hayden said the suspects denied ownership of the marijuana but did say it had been smoked recently in front of the children. Deputies found three partially-smoked marijuana roaches in an ashtray on the table.

“The children belonged to Cornelius,” Hayden said. “They were turned over to the grandmother.”

Deputies were reportedly acting on a call from a concerned citizen regarding the drug activity around the children.

Both men were booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
