Minden man one of three stealing gas

Shreveport Police detectives have arrested three suspects, one a Minden man, in connection with the theft of at least 8,600 gallons of gasoline from Calumet.

Back in March of 2011, investigators got a tip regarding internal thefts of large amounts of gasoline from the Calumet Refinery located in the 3300 block of Midway Avenue.

morrow_jacobDetectives immediately began their investigation and earlier this month they received more specific information regarding a Calumet employee, 29 year old Jacob Morrow, who was, working in conjunction with other non-employees, allegedly stealing fuel and selling it to a local gas station.

Working with officials at Calumet, detectives set up surveillance on the Chevron station in the 7400 block of Mansfield Road and observed the controlled delivery of approximately 8,600 gallons of gasoline to the gas station there.

The man identified as the owner of that business, 29 year old Amir Khurram, paid $9,500 in cash at that time for the stolen fuel. Based on all of the information gathered during the course of their inquiry, investigators obtained search warrants for Khurram's business on Mansfield Road and his home in the 7600 block of University Drive in Shreveport, as well as an arrest warrant for Khurram charging him with one count of felony theft.

Thursday, authorities served those warrants and arrested Khurram without incident. Investigators seized $19,577 in cash during the searches in addition to documents pertaining to the operation of the business.

Morrow, of the 3100 block of Germantown Road in Minden and another man, identified as 28 year old Kevin Harris, of the 8500 block of Meadow Parkway Drive in Shreveport were both charged with one count of felony theft each. Detectives stress this is an ongoing investigation and they anticipate more arrests.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture assisted in this investigation and their help proved invaluable.
