Lizzie Manning Gladney

Lizzie_Gladney1On March 25, 1913, a beautiful baby girl, Lizzie Mae, was born to Elias and Mae Lou Nelson Manning in Webster Parish.

This baby grew up and was later married in Holy Matrimony to Twige "Squal" Gladney for more than 60 years. Lizzie united with the Bright Star Baptist Church after her marriage to Twige.

Lizzie was a very active member until her health failed. She was a dedicated member and saw many come and go. She fed ministers and anyone in the congregation who wanted to come to her house to eat each Sunday. She was choir president for over 25 years. She loved to sing and had a beautiful soprano voice.

She believed in attending church and attended church with her daughters until she was 97 years old. Lizzie and her husband centered their lives around "people" and helping people.

Lizzie departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 22. She lived a long, blessed, and fruitful life and was favored by God. Her husband, Twige "Squal" preceded her in death as well as two children, Essie and Willie; six grandchildren; sister-in-law, Louise; and brother-in-law, Elbert.

She leaves to mourn two daughters, Dorothy (Wilbert) Brooks and Ora (George) Rice, Minden; one son, Tommy Holmes, San Diego, California; one sister, Ora Lee Gouvan, Canfield, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Virginia Gladney, Shreveport; one adopted daughter, Linda Clark, one adopted granddaughter, Shelia Dillard; three special nieces, Viola Walker, Martha Cosby and Bertha Gladney; 32 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lizzie leaves behind a strong legacy and a rich heritage. They called her blessed and highly favored. Her warm spirit will live forever in the hearts of many.

Lizzie is now on another journey, "Heaven is waiting for her."
