MARKS, MS. — The Glenbrook Apache basketball team sits just four wins away from a state championship.
The Apaches are taking part in the Class A Tourney being held at Delta Academy in Marks, Mississippi. They begin play tonight against DeSoto at 7:45 p.m.
"I, along with our coaching staff and players are trying our best to make things happen and keep moving forward," Apache head coach Chris Kourvelas said. "And hopefully, through all this, we will make a name for not only Glenbrook, but also the town of Minden too."
DeSoto is the #4 seed from the North Division and has the reputation as a very physical team.
"They are the type of them that will play tough to get in your head," Kourvelas said. "It will be important for us to box out and get the guy to go over us to draw a foul. They also have a couple of kids that are shooters, if they get hot, especially from the outside, it could be deadly for us."
Kourvelas expects DeSoto play a lot of 3-2 zones defensively.
"At times, they may trap out of this zone set, but not too often," he said. "I feel that our zone offense should be pretty efficient if we are able to run our sets and make good passes and of course, have good shot selection. We are not taking them lightly, we have come too far in our season to get upset and go home after the first game."
Tip off is at 7:45 p.m.
