SIBLEY — The Lakeside Lady Warriors had the honor of opening the 18th Annual Don Stahl Memorial Tournament with the first game in the high school gym, and they didn't disappoint as they beat Calvary Baptist, 46-25.
"It was a pretty good game for us," Lakeside head coach LaDarien Amos said. "We jumped out early and built on that lead as the game went on."
The Lady Warriors led 11-2 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 24-10 lead into halftime and never looked back.
"The girls really played great defense and I was proud of the intensity they showed," Amos said. "We had really worked hard over the break, and that hard work showed today. I thought the girls really stepped up to the challenge."
Tamera Douglas led Lakeside with 15 points and Shanae Collins added nine points. Zakariah Jenkins and Jessica Bridges both added six points.
Amos was impressed with Bridges' play beyond her six points.
"It may not have shown up in the score book, but Jessica was a real leader tonight," he said. "With all the intangibles she showed tonight, she really stood out."
