Clyde Stanley’s Academic Award Winners

Star System program is exclusive to Clyde Stanley's Martial Arts and was designed to reward students for academic achievement. The staff at Clyde Stanley's monitors report cards and gives points for making the honor roll, principal's list, bringing letter grades up, and perfect attendance.

After each grading period, students are given uniform patches for a certain number of points. The students with the most points at the end of the school year are awarded the title "Top Gun" and receive a custom-made professional uniform. Since this program was started, twenty years ago, there has been a dramatic improvement in school grades. One student actually went from all "F's" to all "A's".

Coleson Shaw, the Top Gun winner from the "Dragon" class is the 10-year old son of Alan and Yvette Shaw. Besides training in the martial arts, Coleson loves to read. This past summer he read over 700 books and won the prize for reading the most books in his age group.

Koby Mangrum, the "Top Gun" winner from the Tiger class, is the seven-year old son of Lance and Misty Mangrum of Heflin. Koby is a student at Central Elementary. When he is not practicing martial arts, Koby enjoys reading, drawing, swimming, and riding his bike.
