An informational seminar for employers was held Tuesday at the Minden Community House
The program was designed to help businesses save money, deal with everyday workforce challenges, and answer questions to enhance business operation.
Topics included hiring and firing issues, wage and hour issues and OSHA: Workplace Safety On-Site Services.
The topics were designed to answer questions such as:
Can I fire someone for doing this?
Just how does that Family Medical Leave Act affect my business?
Do I have to pay overtime if my employees work over 40 hours in a week? Are there exceptions?
Once I terminate an employee, how soon am I required to pay them their last paycheck?
Am I required to pay holiday pay, severance pay, vacation pay, etc.?
Can OSHA help me reduce my Workers' Compensation?
Is OSHA only here to issue citations?
Will OSHA help me improve workplace safety?
The Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce, the City of Minden, the Coordinating and Development Corporation and the Louisiana Workforce Commission sponsored the program.
