Third time’s charm for DWI

TAYLOR_RAY_SMITHAn Arkansas man won't be driving drunk on Webster Parish roads for a while.

Webster Parish Sheriff's patrol deputies arrested Taylor Ray Smith, 20, of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) third offense, improper lane usage, and driving under suspension of a DWI.

According to Sheriff Gary Sexton, Smith was stopped by a patrol deputy while traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 371 near Sarepta.

Smith was reportedly driving well over the fog line and caught the deputy's attention.

"While following Smith, the officer observed him swerving badly across the roadway," Sexton said. "After stopping the vehicle and upon approach to Smith, the deputy detected a smell of an alcoholic beverage. Field sobriety tests were conducted, which Smith allegedly failed."

Smith was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for a blood alcohol test which registered well over the limit, according to the sheriff.
