"Right now we are asking for volunteers – especially local volunteers," said Charlie Park, Fuller executive director. "A lot of things have to happen before the Legacy Build takes place this fall."
Park said volunteers are needed to do simple carpentry work, such as nailing and pulling nails.
"Before the big build, we prepare storage buildings for each new home that will be constructed," he said. "Not only will the new homeowners make use of the storage buildings, but it also serves as storage during the build."
Volunteers can expect to work during the morning in order to escape the heat.
"We start work around 6 a.m. and finish around noon or so, in order to beat the heat," Park said. "We ask that if you are willing to volunteer you show up at Legacy Acres during that time."
Legacy Acres is a new subdivision where the 3rd annual Millard Fuller Legacy Build will take place.
By taking Pine Street north of Minden, Millard Fuller Drive will be located on the right after Culpeper Nursery and before Troy's Auto Salvage.
Park also noted water, ice or sports drinks are also appreciated.
The Legacy Build will take place October 17 through 21 in Minden. The event will center on the construction of eight new houses, but there will also be renovations done to eight existing homes in the same neighborhood.
Volunteers for the pre-build should contact Melissa Foster at 268-4267 with any questions.
