For the past two years, Odom has been the Minden Downtown Development Director working with merchants to promote commerce along Main Street with special events, coordinated promotions and outreach to businesses.
In her new role, Odom will now promote business growth throughout the city.
"We have seen an increase of new businesses and a boost to already established businesses along Main Street and have great optimism regarding the prospects of expanding enterprise throughout our city with Mrs. Odom leading the way," Mayor Bill Robertson said. "Minden has a unique business community and is eager to see growth in all its sectors."
As a former business owner, Odom knows the challenges involved in maintaining a profitable enterprise.
"Minden has unlimited potential for economic growth," Odom said. "We have a work force that supports a variety of industries and with our easy access to Interstate 20, Minden can easily connect to customers and suppliers throughout the area. We have a small community feel with the benefits of big business attitude."
The Minden Chamber of Commerce recognized Odom as the 2011 Minden Woman of the Year because of her commitment to the success of business development and support along Main Street.
"The City of Minden is proud that one of our own received this recognition," Robertson said following the presentation. "Her work on behalf of the citizens and merchants speaks for the commitment we have to successful business development."
Odom looks forward to further facilitating a cohesive plan promoting the historic attributes of Minden from the streets, to the signage and restoration of the buildings.
"We will be both supportive of the plans made by established businesses and encouraging to new ideas and enterprises in all areas of the city," she said.
Odom has been a resident of Minden since the 1960s, graduating from Minden High School and Louisiana Tech University.
During her time in Minden, she has been a reporter, announcer and copywriter for KASO Radio and the owner of House of Gifts on Main Street.
She has been active in the business community as Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau President, Minden Main Street Board of Directors member and Downtown Business Association Board of Directors member.
