"My soul clings to Thee; Thy right hand upholds me." Psalm 63:8 NASB
David's heartfelt desire was to cling to God. He did not want earthly things or even heaven. He wanted to be with God. The word "cling" carries the idea of being closely associated or even glued together.
It is an intense and earnest desire to be close with God, to spend all his time with Him, to walk with Him, and to follow after Him. It implies a loyal, submissive, obedient, and faithful pursuit of God.
While David wanted to cling to God, God was actually holding on to him. "God's right hand" is an expression of God's power, might, and protection.
God sustained and provided for David in the midst of his difficult circumstances.
Lord Jesus, draw me close to You by Your great power, love, and grace. I desire to be near You, to learn of Your Word, and to be guided by Your hand.
