The Minden Dixie Belles All-Star team finished second in the recent District Softball Tournament in Haughton, and will now head to Alexandria for the State Softball Tournament beginning on Friday, July 15.
The Minden Belles went 3-2 in the district tournament, with both losses coming to the first-place West Monroe team.
On Saturday, July 2, the Minden Belles fell to West Monroe, 28-17.
Pitcher Kayla Cage had two strike out in two innings on the mound, and Stormie Johnson struck out two in five innings.
The next day, Minden defeated Springhill, 20-2.
Kenzie Taylor dominated on the mound as she allowed only one hit and struck out nine batters in five innings of work.
The Minden Belles' next game came against the Shreveport All-Stars. After a weather delay, the Minden Belles defeated Shreveport, 25-12. Kayla Cage and Kenzie Taylor each struck out two batters for Minden.
After beating Shreveport, Minden had to face West Monroe.
Kenzie Taylor led the way in the 7-5 Minden win, as she went all seven innings, striking out four batters.
On July 6, Minden and West Monroe had to face each other again, with the game deciding the District Championship. In a tight game, West Monroe came out on top, 12-8.
Stormie Johnson led Minden, as she struck out two West Monroe batters.
Coaches Tomorrow Moore, Pie Howard, Mike Sutter and Curt Allen have led this team to the State Tournament for the first time in five years. The coaches, parents and supporters are proud of these young ladies and commend then on a job well done, and wish them luck in Alexandria this weekend.
