The event will take place at the Minden Civic Center August 8 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
"We want the students to feel ready, prepared and confident," said Kristi Mayfield, who is on the Back to School Bash committee. "Our goal is to ensure that every student that is in need starts the school year equipped with essential school supplies so they are able to focus on their education. We also want to ease the transition for students who will be transferring to a new school due to the recent school consolidation plan."
Mayfield said supplies and uniforms will be collected for all schools in the parish, as well as additional services offered.
"We are in the process of gathering donors and volunteers who will help these kids have a great start this school year," Kristi Mayfield said. "We want all students in our parish to start school right with haircuts, teeth cleanings, school supplies and back packs."
According to Mayfield, free haircuts will be available to students to help them look and feel their best.
She also hopes to gather enough support to provide teeth cleaning, vision screening and various other services.
"The idea of going back to school can be overwhelming for many parents and children when it comes to the cost of supplies and uniforms," Mayfield said, noting an expected increase in the number of families in need this year.
The Back to School Bash committee is made up of representatives from the 26th Judicial Court Truancy Office, Conoco-Phillips, Webster Parish School Board, Victory Praise and Worship and Woo's Barber Shop.
This year, the committee will sponsor a "Pack the Bus" campaign to help gather supplies before the Bash.
"This is a community-wide effort to meet the needs of Webster Parish elementary, middle and high school students who need help with school supplies," Mayfield said. "Please partner with us and help pack the buses with school supplies for those parents and students who are not able to purchase the required supplies to start school this year. Let's make the start of this school year an enjoyable experience for our students."
Pack the bus will be held Friday July 29 and Saturday July 30 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Buses will be located at Wal-Mart in Minden and at the Minden Police Department.
Volunteers are needed to help sort through the supplies, collect supplies from drop off locations and to help the day of the Back to School Bash.
Sponsors are also being sought at various donor levels ranging from $10 to $300, with incentives at each level. All donations are tax deductible under 501(c)(3) guidelines.
