Jeanne Mason, a resident artist at City Art Works, will put her talent to use as she offers a beginning drawing class to the community.
"I feel when you have been blessed with a talent, part of what goes with it is sharing it with others," Mason said. "In addition to showing my work, I feel strongly about guiding others and helping them learn."
Mason's work includes murals at the State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport, where she also worked as curator.
"I've been at it (painting) for a long while," Mason said. "I was the youngest member of the Shreveport Art Club, and I did my first painting at age seven and have been painting ever since."
Drawing came naturally to Mason at a young age, she said.
"And I have been doing it and learning ever since," said Mason. "To be able to move back from Dallas and find Minden has such a unique program for artists was great.
"The resident artist program at City Art Works is so helpful not only to the artist, but in cultivating a love and appreciation of art in the community," she continued. "Minden is very fortunate to have a program of this caliber here and I hope to see the community participate more in it."
Mason's beginner drawing class will be held at City Art Works and will run month long, once a week, two-hour sessions.
Cost for instruction will be $60 and Mason encouraged participants to shop locally at Bobby's Hobbies for their materials. For more information call Jeanne Mason 560-9909.
