Minden High to take on Salmen

DSC 8842Teams to meet in first-round match-up tonight in Slidell

The Minden Crimson Tide will begin the 2012-13 LHSAA basketball playoffs tonight, with a first-round game in Slidell against the 13th seeded Salmen Spartans.

"Salmen is a very talented team," Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "This is a very tough draw for a first-round game."

Salmen is primarily an outside shooting team that will spread the floor and take the three-point shot. Two of the Spartans' top players are 6'5" and 6'4" sophomores Cody Rudolph and Chris Vickers. Both players are accurate from the three-point line. Point guard Mike Wilson is the top assist man for the Spartans, and forward Jordan Pitts is also very talented. Eric Bell is also deadlyy from the outside.

"They are very talented and guard oriented," Shaw said. "They shoot a lot of threes. In fact, they shoot more threes than twos. And they make a lot of them."

Shaw says his team knows they have their work cut out for them.

"We're just going to keep preparing and do what we can to match up with them. They will be a tough team to beat, but if we shoot the ball well and defend their three-point shooting, we have a chance."

Salmen finished the season with a 24-6 record. Their only losses came to 5A schools Covington, Archbishop Rummel, L.W. Higgings and Brother Martin, 44A Holy Cross and 2A Riverside Academy.

The Crimson Tide finished the season with a 24-5 record, and with two of their losses coming to #9 seed Huntington High School.
