LAKESIDE —The Lakeside Warriors opened their 2012 home schedule with a 50-46 loss to Benton on Tuesday.
"We didn't play too well," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "Neither team shot the ball very well early. We both looked sluggish."
Lakeside led 7-6 after the first quarter and then pushed their lead to 24-12 at the half.
"We out-scored them 16-6 in the second quarter," Gould said. "And Davian Whiting had three three-pointers to really ignite us."
The teams played tight (14-13 Benton) in the third quarter, before the Tigers blew the game open in the fourth.
"We just fell apart in the last quarter," Gould said. "They out-scored us 25-10. We had several turnovers and a lot of missed free throws, which were all costly. Turnovers, missed free throws and rebounds all killed us in the fourth quarter and allowed them to come back on us."
Whiting led Lakeside with 17 points and Jamarion teal had 10 points and 15 rebounds. Darryl Moore and Frankie Miles both added eight points each.
Lakeside will play Haughton today at 6;30 p.m. in the Doyline Tournament. The game will be played at Lakeside High School.
