Tide beats North DeSoto for Consolation Title

HAUGHTON—The Minden Crimson Tide beat North DeSoto, 60-50 on Saturday to take the Consolation Bracket Finals and third place in the Jack Clayton Invitational Haughton Tournament.

"I was proud of the guys that even after we lost to Green Oaks in the first round, they didn't hang their heads," Crimson Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "They realized that in basketball, every game is important because of the power rankings. It doesn't matter who you're playing come February and March, every game is important."

Shaw said his team set it's sights on winning the consolation bracket after the Green Oaks loss.

"They really stepped it up," he said. "Of' course we wanted to win the overall championship, but if we couldn't do that, coming from the backside and getting the consolation title was good. It was nice to get those wins over the weekend."

The Tide jumped out on North DeSoto and never looked back.

"We pretty much controlled the game the whole way," Shaw said. "Our defense, especially in the first half, was phenomenal. Leondre Forbes played really well. Our defense did a good job and we got a number of easy baskets."

C.J. Elkins led the Tide with 15 points and Forbes added 14. Tra Thornton scored nine, Reggie Seamster had eight, Anfernee red scored seven and Elgin Moore added four. Dominique Washington had three.
