Soto sizzles to second straight LSU Tiger Classic Title

BATON ROUGE — The Lakeside cross-country teams went south to LSU for the annual Tiger Classic on Saturday. Overcoming humid conditions over a long course the girls and guys posted outstanding results.

For the second-straight year Enrique Soto was the king of the course running a 16:05 to easily defeat runner-up Hayden Kingfisher of Parkway who ran a 16:49.

Senior James Taylor finished 10th at 17:41 followed closely by Eric Greene at 11th in a time of 17:43. Cody Robinson, an eighth grader, had a personal best run of 19:55 to finish 45th. Riley Smith, the Warrior's fifth finisher, placed 47th at 20:02.

Other finishers were Travis Walker (77) (21:22); Alex Robles (80) (21:26); Joe Johnson (89) (22:17); Ryan McFarland (109) (24:21); JR Mueller (115) (24:35); and Dylan Welch (124) (25:55).

As a team the guys finished fourth with a total of 106 points behind Parkway (57), Ruston (74), and Byrd (77). 137 runners and 15 teams competed in the boys division.

On the ladies side, eighth-grader Alissa Landers lead the way finishing an impressive third in the 91-girl field. Landers clocked a 20:48 over the 3.3 mile course.

Heather Schenck took 16th at 25:52 and Anna Davidson was 23rd at 23:25. Eighth-grader Katelyn Collier ran a personal best of 23:55 placing 29th. Two seventh-graders, Nancy Silva and Brooke Walker, placed 52nd and 74th at 26:33 and 28:31.

The ladies team scored 97 points to finish third behind Parkway at 35 and Ruston's 38. Ten teams participated in the ladies division.

Next week the Lakeside teams travel to Ruston to participate in the Cedar Creek Invite on Saturday.
