Soto and Landers take Choudrant titles

The Lakeside cross-country teams began the 2012 season with a bang at the Choudrant Aggie Cross-country meet in Ruston. Allisa Landers and Enrique Soto easily won championships on the 3 mile course in hot, humid conditions.

For the ladies Landers ran a 20:41 in this opening meet. The 8th grader who was all-state in Cross-country and track last year ran away from the rest of the field. Heather Schneck finished 5th for the ladies with a time of 22:40. Anna Davidson placed 7th with a 24:02.

Soto began his Senior year as he left off his junior season, with a championship. The defending state AA CC champion easily defeated a class field which included Zach Capello of Ascension Catholic, one of the top returning distance runners in the state. Soto was the only runner under 16:00 as he sped to a time of 15:49. Freshman Eric Greene the defending state Jr. High champion ran a 17:15 for the 5th place. Senior James Taylor took 7th at 17:50. Riley Smith in the first 3 mile run, ran 20:10 placing in the top 15. Travis Walker and Dakota Conway followed closely behind Smith. As the team the Warriors finished 3rd behind Ascension Catholic and Byrd.

Next Saturday the teams will compete in Tyler, Texas. The teams are coached by Dan Grantham.
