"For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax-gatherers do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?" Matthew 5:46-47 NASB
Jesus continues to illustrate the principle that the righteous person must demonstrate God's love for all people. Even sinners know how to return love and kindness toward those that love them. Yet the righteous must love their enemies.
This kind of love is an action not an emotion. It is seeking the best for the other person in every situation. This kind of love is not being a doormat, letting the other person run over you. It is leading others to an understanding of God's forgiveness, grace, and love. This love seeks to lead all people to a saving relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus, I am amazed at Your great love and grace. Help me to reflect that love in my dealings with others.
