Lakeside head coach Bob Gray has coached Lambert for a long time and is very happy for him.
“I can’t think of a finer young man, or a young man more deserving of this opportunity than Garrett Lambert,” he said. “He’s earned this honor. Baseball commitments are a very hard thing to get, you can just ask the other million or so that don’t get one.”
Lambert has been a big part of the Warrior team this season, as he is hitting .447 (38 for 85) with three home runs and 24 RBIs.
Gray leans on Lambert for more than his offensive production. Gray says Lambert is an important leader on the team, one that leads by example.
“Garrett has worked really hard on his game, on his skills and his knowledge of the game,” he said. “And other players see that. He’s just like a coach on the field for us, and when you have a kid like that you’ve got something.”
Lambert is also a go-getter and a self starter, something that Gray doesn’t take for granted.
“He’s always getting in his work,” he said. “I came by here the ball park the other day and he was up there by himself hitting bp (batting practice). We’ve been real happy with Garrett while he’s been here, and he’s going to be missed when the time comes for him to leave, very much missed.”
