Lady Knights top Runnels, 10-0

SPRINGHILL — The North Webster Lady Knights shut out Runnels, 10-0, in their first round playoff match-up Monday afternoon at Stateline Park in Springhill.

The Lady Knights (19-9) will now advance to the Regional round of the LHSAA Class 2A playoffs and will play defending 3A state Champions, Catholic of New Iberia in New Iberia Friday night at 6 p.m.

In Monday's win, NWHS pitcher Amberlee Nix led the way as she struck out nine of the 16 batters she faced to get the win.

Nix also added a pair of doubles and Shannon Cessna went two-for-three.

The Lady Knights wasted little time, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cassie Thomas led off the inning by reaching on an error and quickly stole second and third base. Lexi Baker's hard-hit ball to shortstop was mishandle, allowing Thomas to score and Baker to reach first. Baker would later score on a Jordan Griffith single.

The Lady Knights came back to score five runs in the third. Singles by Baker, Brooke Foster and a double by Nix led to two runs. Cessna had a RBI-single, scoring pinch-runner DeeDee Washington. Cessna then scored on a single by Tori Cash. Cash would later score on a hard grounder by Lindsey Owens.

The Lady Knights finished the scoring in the fourth inning with three runs. Foster and Griffin reached base on Runnels' errors and scored on doubles by Nix and Cessna.
