Carpenter leads Lakeside to win

1-02_CarpenterSHREVEPORT — Lakeside’s T.J. Carpenter continued his stellar season as he scored 35 points to lead Lakeside to a 67-61 win over Calvary Baptist on Friday.

“T.J. pretty much took care of things for us,” Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. “Anytime we need a big basket, he took care of it for us. Rontrell Kinsey also had a nice game, he really helped us in the second quarter with nine points and Jerrell Tellis had a couple of key baskets and steals late in the game to help us hang on for the win.”

Lakeside started slow against Calvary and trailed by 10 points at the end of the first quarter.

“We started a little sluggish,” Gould said. “We were down 19-9 at the end of the first quarter. Calvary was shooting the ball real well, and we  weren’t shooting  very good. We also had a number of turnovers that put us into the hole.”

The Warriors fought back in the second quarter to cut the lead to one point (33-32) at halftime.

“We out-scored them 23-14 in the second quarter,” Gould said. “And that made us fell a lot better about our chances in the second half.”

The teams played even in the third quarter before Lakeside took the fourth quarter, 18-10.

In addition to Carpenter’s 35 points, he also had nine rebounds and four assists. Kinsey scored 13 points and Tellis had a season-high eight points.

The Warriors will play at Minden High tonight before hosting their annual  Don Stahl Memorial Tournament which begins Wednesday.
