Make it three wins in a row for the Lakeside Warriors basketball team.
The Warriors, struggling mightily through the first few games of the season, are now clicking as they move on to the semifinal round of the Edward Jones Investments Minden Holiday Classic.
The latest team to fall against Lakeside was El Dorado, a team from Arkansas that had Warrior coach Jason Gould concerned before the game. In the end, his team came away with a one point victory, 48-47. But as Gould knew beforehand, a win was going to be hard to come by.
And difficult it was.
"We were down by 10 at the half," Gould said. "We struggled early because they were a big team, lots of big players. They were playing a zone, and we just couldn't get much going inside."
But thanks to a stifling defensive performance in the third quarter and a scoring clinic by T.J. Carpenter in the fourth, Lakeside was able to pull even and then go on for the win.
"We outscored them 14-5 in the third quarter," Gould said. "That made it a new ball game."
Lakeside picked up the tempo defensively and forced El Dorado to take quick shots. In addition, the Warriors forced several key turnovers.
When the fourth quarter came, T.J. Carpenter took over the game.
"We scored 18 points in the fourth, and he scored every one of them," Gould said.
Carpenter hit three consecutive three pointers and made five for the game on his way to 31 points.
The Warriors move on to the Saturday semifinal. Game time is 1:15 p.m.
