DOYLINE — The Doyline basketball teams swept a pair of varsity games from Summerfield Monday night in Doyline.
The boys won, 70-67, in overtime, and the girls rolled 51-39.
"We pulled out a couple of W's," Doyline head coach Michael Normand said. "It was the first time in several years that the girls beat Summerfield, so it was a big win for us."
Usually a running team, the Lady Panthers (7-3) slowed it down last night against the Lady Rebs.
"We really didn't get to practice over the break (due to gym improvements), so I thought we might be a little out of shape," Normand said. "So we slowed it down and packed it in, and it worked pretty well. We played one of our better games mentally, and we cut down a lot of our silly mistakes,"
Shontrell Johnson led the team with 19 points. Amber Ary scored 17 and Sharrell Dawson added 10.
The Panthers (6-4) used a team-wise scoring balance to pull out the win. The Panthers had eight players score between five and 15 points in the win.
"I don't even want to call out the leading scorers, because we scored as a team," Normand said. "That's the type of team we have, we just do what we do as a team. My theory is if your open, you shoot the ball. I thought we played a well-rounded game offensively and defensively and I though we moved the ball well. They packed it down real tight, but we made eight three-pointers and that pulled them out of their zone. It was a close game but we pulled it out in the end."
