HOMER— The Glenbrook Apaches finished up the Claiborne double header with a 79-36 win over Central School on Friday night.
The Apaches led 44-20 at the half, and then out-scored Central 35-16 the rest of the way for the win.
"I am pleased with how our guys played in the CA double-header as a whole," Glenbrook head coach Chris Kourvelas said. "Tonight, we played well overall, we rebounded well, created turnovers and shot the ball fairly well."
The Apaches played with out starters Caydan Maloney and Austin Palmier again, both players are expected to be back until after Thanksgiving.
The Apaches had three players turn in double-doubles on the night, led by Wesley Hicks' 26 points and 14 rebounds. Zach Specht had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Cade Spurlock dropped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Bennett Kitchens added nine points and three boards.
"Wesley, Specht and Cade had another good night of basketball, however; there are still a lot of things we need to work on to become a better team," Kourvelas said. "Many of the things that the coaching staff and myself are continuing to work on with our boys are the little things....such as playing better defense), limiting our turnovers, seeing the whole floor during transition, getting better from the line and knowing when to drive or to take an outside shot. I tell our guys all the time that if we can focus our attention on little details and execute them properly, bigger and greater things will happen."
Kourvelas is happy with where his team is heading into the Thanksgiving break.
"We are pleased with our team's effort during the last couple of nights," Kourvelas said. "We do not play again until the Monday after Thanksgiving when we travel to Riverdale. We will practice Monday, give the guys a few days off to be with family and then resume practice after Thanksgiving."
