The Minden High soccer teams split a pair of games with Northwood in their home openers Thursday night. The girls won, 3-1, while the boys lost, 5-3.
"I was very proud of both teams," Minden coach Tracy Lee said. "Both teams played very hard. The only bad thing was that it was a little chilly out there."
Rachel Abney, Brooke Hortman and Alana Kendrick all scored goals for the lady Tiders and goal keeper Kersten Lee had six saves.
"All the girls played great," Lee said. "The defense played extremely well, all the girls worked together."
Jarett Torres, Sam Shoemaker and Philip Hardy scored goals for the Tide.
"At the start, both teams fought through some early season nerves," Lee said. "We started off slow, and they got a couple of quick goals. But we settled down, fought back and played well. Towards the end, a little fatigue set in, but that's expected early in the year. All in all I was pleased."
