Child’s Razor® used in assault

Billy_LaneA Minden man is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $50,000 bond after hitting another man in the head with a Razor® Scooter.

Billy Lane, 51, of the 700 block of Buck Street, was arrested Friday on a warrant for aggravated second degree battery and criminal damage to property.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said Lane allegedly damaged a door at a residence in the 600 block of Bradford Street earlier in August.

"The homeowner contacted a man to help her fix the door right after Lane had been over there and damaged it," Cropper said. "As she was walking to her house with the man who was going to help her, Lane came around a corner and an altercation broke out between him and the man."

Cropper said the scooter, which weighs approximately seven pounds and is made of aluminum, was on the ground.

"Lane picked up the scooter and hit the man with it," Cropper said. "He (victim) had to have 16 staples across the top of his head."

Ofc. Chris McClaren and Sgt. Keith King responded to the call. The victim was reportedly taken to Minden Medical Center where he was treated and released.

"The next day, the victim filed charges," said the chief. "An investigation took place and a warrant for Lane's arrest was obtained."

At that point, he said, Lane went into hiding.

"Friday ( August 26), Lt. Dan Weaver saw Lane at a gas station on Lee Street," Cropper said. "Lt. Weaver knew there was a warrant for Lane's arrest, so he made contact with him and arrested him."
