Crimson Tide wins first district game, 75-47

The Minden Crimson Tide hosted Benton High School Tuesday night in their first district game of the year.

The game was close early, but the Tide pulled away in the second half to get their first district win, 75-47.

"It was kind of a tale of two halves," Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "In the first half we struggled offensively. We just couldn't get into a rhythm, and our defense kept us in the game."

Minden led by three points, 26-23 as the teams headed into the locker room at the half.

"We turned up our defense after halftime," Shaw said. "We pressed them and that got us into a running game, which is not what they wanted. Benton is much more of a half-court team."

The up tempo opened things up for the Tide, as they forced Benton into a number of turnovers, which turned into easy shots for the Tide.

"We got it going in the third quarter," Shaw said. "C.J. (Elkins) hit a couple of big three's for us and we were able to open up a 20-point lead, and we kind of coasted in the fourth quarter."

Leandre Forbes led the Tide with 21 points and Elkins added 20. Reggie Seamster scored 10 points and Kevin Hamilton added nine.

"It was good to get our first district win," Shaw said. "In our district, it's very important to take care of your home court. You can not lose home games, and we're going to keep that streak going. It's good to get the win and now we have a week to get ready for Huntington.

The Tide (18-3) will travel to Huntington next Tuesday.
